Woman remains jailed in shooting
YOUNGSTOWN
A city woman accused of shooting up a South Side bar mere hours after bringing in the new year will remain in the Mahoning County jail on more than $100,000 bond.
Amber Grimm, 26, of Madison Avenue, had a video arraignment Monday before Judge Robert Milich of Youngstown Municipal Court. She is charged with felonious assault and aggravated burglary.
Grimm appeared before the court with what appeared to be a bandaged forehead from the weekend scuffle with patrons at the Dragon Palace bar and restaurant on South Avenue.
Prosecutors told the court Grimm has a list of previous arrests, including assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, theft, disorderly conduct and felonious assault. Grimm did not enter a plea to the current charges against her.
Prosecutors told the court a gun allegedly used by Grimm in the shooting has not been recovered and is now unaccounted for on the street.
Judge Milich set her bond at a combined $110,000 on the charges.
The events leading to Grimm’s arrest are believed to have been anger over her refusal to be allowed in the Dragon Palace on New Year’s Eve. A manager at the bar told police only a few family members were permitted in at 5 a.m.
Grimm, according to police reports, told officers she had gone to the bar and was refused entry because she is white. She told police she became angry and armed herself with a handgun before breaking out a window to the bar, entering the facility and firing shots.
A group of men rushed Grimm and took the gun from her hands. Grimm told police one of the men hit her in the face with the gun several times.
Officers found Grimm leaning on a car across the street from the bar bleeding heavily from the face shortly after the shooting. Several people in a large crowd of onlookers told police Grimm had shot up the bar.
Grimm reportedly told police she may have shot someone in the group of people that attacked and disarmed her. Police were not able to confirm her claim of shooting someone, however.
