Pa. man sought in Ohio officer shooting arrested

ERIE, Pa. (AP) — Authorities say a western Pennsylvania man being sought in the shooting of a police officer in Ohio has been taken into custody in Pennsylvania.

Police in Erie County said that the 20-year-old Girard man was arrested at a Millcreek Township motel at about 8:30 p.m. Monday. They said he would be taken to police headquarters for questioning in the shooting Monday afternoon in Ashtabula, Ohio, and arraigned later on drug charges.

Police were seeking the suspect after Ashtabula Lt. Rodney Blaney was shot while investigating a suspicious vehicle. Blaney was taken to Ashtabula County Medical Center, but Jim Oatman, a records clerk with the city police department, says he will be all right.

Police said Blaney was hit once in his bulletproof vest and returned fire, but it was unknown whether he had hit anyone.
