Search to resume for fallen hiker in Utah park
ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) — Searchers in Utah planned to use a helicopter to try to find a hiker who may be hurt after falling 300 feet from a cliff ledge in Snow Canyon State Park.
The Spectrum of St. George reported today the search on Island in the Sky trail was halted late Sunday due to cold and dangerous conditions.
Washington County Sheriff-elect Cory Pulsipher tells the newspaper that rescuers were notified about 6 p.m. Sunday.
Sheriff’s Detective Nate Abbot said the missing man was one of three hikers in a group in the park north of Santa Clara.
Pulsipher says rescuers were able to find the two other men who were stranded on what he calls a hazardous climb.
