Pilot rescued after small plane crash
MUNCY VALLEY, Pa. (AP) — A pilot has been rescued after a small plane crash in a remote, mountainous part of the Pennsylvania.
Officials say 22-year-old James Caswell, of Lake Ariel, was taken to safety early today following the crash a few hours earlier in Sullivan County.
Rescuers say the plane crashed on top of a mountain around 9 p.m. Sunday. Benton fire Chief Ron Robbins tells WNEP-TV the remote location slowed rescuers.
Robbins says a hospital helicopter assisting in the rescue effort spotted the wreckage and hovered over the scene so rescuers knew where to look.
Authorities say Caswell maintained cell phone contact with emergency workers throughout the ordeal.
