Canfield swimmers split Dec. 21 meet
The Canfield swim team split the Dec. 21 meet at Youngstown State University. The boys defeated Kent Roosevelt 133-43, while the girls fell 92-91.
Daniel Bogen won the 200 yard free and the 500-yard free. He was also part of the winning 400-yard free relay. Gavin Trebilcock took first in the 100-yard backstroke and the 200-yard individual medley.
Ryan O’Malley earned a win in the 100-yard breaststroke and the 100-yard free. He also helped the team take first in the 200-yard medley relay and the 200-yard free relay. Mark Dalvin won the 50-yard free and swam in the winning 200-yard free relay and 400-yard free relay.
Gia Velasquez took first in the 100-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard individual medley. Hilary Allen won the 200-yard free. Briana O’Malley, Erin Loomis, Mallory Allen and Hilary Allen made up the winning team in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Curbstone Coaches announce speaker lineup
The Curbstone Coaches will meet all five Mondays in January, plus host its annual “All-league High School Football Banquet on a Sunday. The group meets at noon the Blue Wolf Catering Center on Lockwood Blvd. in Boardman.
Joe Ethan, former YSU basketball player and current TV color WYTV/Fox for YSU basketball game replays, will serve as the speaker on Jan. 3. On Jan. 10, the speaker will be Joe DeRosa, retired NBA referee and now a 2010/2011 college basketball referee.
Former YSU and NFL kicker Paul McFadden will be the speaker on Jan. 17 and Major League Baseball umpire Wally Bell will be featured Jan. 24. On Jan 30, the group will host its annual all-league high school banquet at 6:30 p.m. at the Georgetown. YSU head football coach Eric Wolford will be the featured speaker.
