During the final week of classes before Christmas break, the students at North Elementary have spent the bulk of the time in the auditorium, rather than the classroom.

“We’ve had three events in here today, and I’ve calculated that you’ve spent more time in assemblies than in class today. That’s why I almost can’t believe you all came back for our Christmas Sing tonight,” said principal Michael Masucci, as students and parents gathered Dec. 21 for the school’s holiday program.

The holiday program that evening was well-attended, with the parents of the first- and second-graders filling North’s auditorium to capacity. Even after a day spent mostly in the auditorium, the student performers were in good spirits during their Christmas carol selections.

The first-grade classes, led by music teacher Charles Szabo, performed classics like “Joy to the World” and “Rudolph,” with the red-nosed reindeer being played by Ty Spurlock.

The second-graders showed their talents with the inclusive Christmas and Hanukkah tune “Happy Holidays,” while second-grader Karter Kellgren played an impressive trumpet solo during “Jolly Old St. Nicholas.”

Masucci shared a playful thank-you to his students’ families and friends.

“It really is a blessing to be part of your childrens’ lives. But it’s exciting that they get 10 days off of school, too.”
