Despite the snowy weather on Dec. 15, the auditorium of Canfield High School was packed to the brim with fans of Canfield Village Middle School’s concert and symphonic bands.

To celebrate a successful year of fundraising for the Band Boosters and the students pushing themselves musically, band directors James Volenik and Mark Pupino offered a lively selection of Christmas tunes for the students’ families and friends.

“After 20 years of band directing,” shared Pupino, “I can safely say that the Christmas concert is always a favorite for the students and their families. The tunes are familiar, but fun to listen to and fun to play as well.”

The performances by the CVMS seventh- and eighth-grade bands united holiday favorites into arrangements like “Christmas Gloria” and student favorite “Santa Rocks the House.” The audience hummed along to “A Charlie Brown Christmas” as scenes from “Merry Christmas Charlie Brown” were shown on a projector during the performance.

During “Carols of Joy,” student teacher James Moose was given the honor of conducting the CVMS concert band.

“I’ve loved being able to work with smaller groups with more personal attention, and I think it’s paid off on both sides. I’ve even received a few Christmas gifts as thanks,” Moose said of his time with the Canfield Band.
