The Youngstown Lions Club celebrated its 90th annual Christmas Party for the visually impaired and special needs children at the Saxon Club in Youngstown.
Funding for this party was provided by friends and sponsors through their donations to the Youngstown Lions annual Turtle Derby.
Approximately 120 children from Chaney, Leonard Kirtz, East High, McGuffey, P. Ross Berry, Southside Academy and Volney Rogers Schools were bussed in. The children had a turkey dinner and sang to the Christmas carols provided by DJ, Kenny G.
The highlight was a visit from Santa where he and his helpers (the Lions) gave each child a gift bag which included a scarf, hat, gloves, candy and a $25 gift that the children chose from the Penny’s catalog.
Realtors from Re/Max Valley Real Estate in Boardman donated over $200 to go toward the gift bags.
The Lions feel that this Christmas Party is the most rewarding event of the year. This year, the Lions have donated over $20,000 to local charities.
The Lions meet every Thursday at the Youngstown Club. New members are always welcome.
