Boardman wins flag football title

BOARDMAN

The Boardman Spartans finished first in the 2010 USFTL State of Ohio Youth Regional Championship, held in November at Mentor High School.

The Spartans won four consecutive games without a loss in the 7-8 year-old division.

Boardman shut out Gametime Sportz (Pickerington) 20-0 in the first game. Boardman then defeated the Lexington (Ky.) Steelers 33-6 in game two.

The Spartans shut out Gametime Sportz again in the semifinals, 7-0, then defeated Omega/Belleria (Poland) 20-13 in the championship game.

The tournament win earned the Spartans an invitation to the 2010 USFTL National Flag Football Championship held in Kissimmee, Fla., in January.

The team was coached by Jason Triveri, Chad Miller and Nick Pastella.

The team also won the 2010 Fall League Championship in the Youngstown Youth Flag Football Association (YYFFA) as the New York Jets.

Members of the team were Aidan Miller (WR/SS), Jason Triveri (WR/SS), Zach Ryan (QB/CB), Brennan Banko (HB/MLB), Noah Kidney (WR/SS), Wrentie Martin (C/SS) and Michael Pastella (WR/CB).
