‘Tethering World’ is poet’s first

Jody Rambo, who teaches creative writing at Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio, has written her first book of poetry, “Tethering World.”

Her poems have appeared in a number of publications and have earned the author individual Excellence Awards from the Ohio Arts Council, and a Jerome Foundation Travel and Study Grant.

“Tethering World” was the winner of the 2009 Wick Poetry Competition and has been published by the Kent State University Press.

Book of poetry wins competition

“The Lonely-Wilds” by Elizabeth Breeze was chosen as one of the winners of the Wick Poetry Chapbook Competition and has been published by Kent State University Press.

Poems by Breese, who teaches composition at the Columbus College of Art and Design, speak lyrically of such things as ditch flowers, raw honey, tornados, radios, broken birds and sailors lost at sea.

Botanical fieldwork is focus of new book

Tom S. Cooperrider, a leading Ohio botanist, reflects on Kent’s remarkable flora in his book, “Botanical Essays From Kent.”

An expert on Ohio flora and a professor emeritus of biological sciences at Kent State University, Cooperrider has authored and co-authored numerous research articles and five books in the field of botany.

His new book is a collection of writings and photographs that capture the spirit and excitement of botanical fieldwork during the 1960s, ’70s and ’80s. It covers such things as the discovery of lost plants, the survival of a famous cultivated tree and invasive alien plant species, but focuses primarily on Kent Bog, which was dedicated as a state nature preserve in 1987.

“Botanical Essays From Kent” is published by Kent State University Press.
