Spouses, children and grandchildren celebrated Valentine’s Day by visiting loved ones at Boardman Shepherd of the Valley for an afternoon filled with food, music and family.

“This is an especially exciting party because it’s such a loving holiday, and today gives a chance to say so,” explained activity director Joan Testa.

The facility showed their appreciation to its residents with music by Ken Zenborn and lots of sweet treats like cheesecake and punch.

The residents shared love for each other by electing a Valentine’s King and Queen for the party. Joe Briganti and Mary Bowell were royalty for the day, and received crowns, balloons and some chocolate candies after the win.

“Joe and Mary are always so sweet and nice to everyone, whether they are residents or staff. They’re always smiling and both are worthy winners,” said Testa.

The party was also a chance to celebrate February birthdays, like the 89th birthday of resident Anna Petricini. Petricini’s daughter, Inez Parinello, made a long trip from New York to be with her mother for the special day.

Three generations of Marilyn Barnhart’s family came to visit her at the Valentine’s Day party. Holly Guy, Barnhart’s granddaughter, watched her own son, Grady Guy, dance to the music and enjoy the sweets of the Valentine’s party.

“We wanted a laid-back day where we can relax with our family and have fun, take some moments to tell each other our love. Today has been wonderful,” Guy shared.
