Poland Seminary High School sophomore Meghan Hawk will have the opportunity to visit Japan for a week.

The program “People to People,” a student ambassador group, sent a letter to Hawk in August and she began the application process.

She received her acceptance letter in October and is required to attend meetings and take tests on the materials learned from the meetings.

To be eligible to travel to Japan, Hawk must score 100 percent on the tests that cover Japanese architecture, technology and different traditions.

If Hawk attains the perfect score, she will travel to Japan on June 24 and receive a welcome in the Tokyo Metropolitan Government offices.

She will then honor a young victim of the Hiroshima bombing by folding origami cranes for her memorial. Amongst the many things she will see and do, Hawk is most interested in speeding across the country in a bullet train and stepping back in time and exploring a village that preserves ancient farming traditions.
