Man pleads to kidnap-assault of estranged wife

ERIE, Pa. (AP) — An Erie man has pleaded guilty to kidnapping and aggravated assault for a two-day ordeal in which he drove the woman to several states and stabbed her with a screwdriver last year.

The Erie Times-News reports that 38-eight-year-old Steven Bennett pleaded guilty Wednesday and will be sentenced March 30.

Prosecutors say Bennett forced his wife, Michelle, into her own car where he hit and choked her and stuck her with the screwdriver on Sept. 7. Over the next two days, Bennett took more than $300 from her bank account and drove to various locations in West Virginia, Ohio and Pennsylvania while threatening to kill her.

State police apprehended Bennett and rescued his wife when they found the couple in the car on Interstate 90 in Springfield Township.
