1 arraigned, 2 indicted in fatal shooting near YSU


YOUNGSTOWN — Court proceedings in the off-campus shooting near Youngstown State University continue with more charges and arraignments of the men facing charges in connection with the deadly shooting.

Brandon Carter, 22, of East Ravenwood Avenue, appeared today before Magistrate Dominic DeLaurentis of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court for arraignment on a felony charge of obstruction of justice in the shootings.

Jamelle Jackson, 18, of West Boston Avenue, was arraigned Wednesday on a charge of obstructing official business. He is in jail on a bond of $150,000, but a grand jury today handed up additional charges against him.

The grand jury today indicted Jackson on charges of murder, felonious assault and shooting into a habitation.

Mark Jones, 20, of Cambridge Avenue, has been indicted on murder and felonious-assault charges. He has been in Mahoning County jail since Monday, having surrendered to police accompanied by his lawyer Sam Amendolara.

Jamail Johnson, 25, a YSU student, and 11 others were wounded in the Feb. 6 shootings.
