Teen accused of killing officer held without bail

CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) — A 16-year-old who was arrested on charges of killing a St. Petersburg police officer made his first appearance in court and is being held without bail.

Pinellas County Judge Raymond Gross made the order today. Court spokesman Ron Stuart says the youth’s father made a tearful apology to the community while in the courtroom.

The teen is accused of killing officer David Crawford on Monday.

Prosecutors will determine whether the accused teen should be tried as an adult.

The Associated Press does not usually identify juveniles until they are charged in adult court.
