Scam nets cash from Ace Cash Express in Liberty

A money gram scam cost Ace Cash Express, 3029 Belmont Ave., $4,740.

The manager and employee told police that the employee received a phone call from someone claiming to be from the corporate office who told the employee that the caller would train her on money gram transactions.

The call came in Tuesday when the employee was busy with customers and remodeling at the office. The caller stayed on the line and relayed personal information, including an address and Social Security number, about where the employee was to practice sending the money.

Though the transaction seemed legitimate, it was not, as was later discovered by the company.

Liberty police contacted police in Roseville, Mich., where the funds were sent.
