Balanced effort helps lift Harding

Anita Brown had 20 points and 14 rebounds, Kourtney Williams had 20 points and 11 rebounds and Brianna McCurdy had 14 points, seven steals and six assists for Warren Harding High girls basketball team, which defeated Valley Forge 73-45 in a Division I sectional semifinal Monday at Warrensville Heights High School.
The Raiders (16-5) will meet Solon at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
Division IV Western Reserve 54, Newbury 52

Sammi Burton scored eight of her 11 points in the second half as Western Reserve (18-3) pulled away after leading just 24-20 at the break.
Burton also had seven rebounds, Tori Korda scored 16 points and Colleen Kennehan had 14 for the Blue Devils, who will play Southington at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Jen Velotta had nine points for Newbury (5-14), which committed 40 turnovers.
Ledgemont 48, Bristol 44

Jannelle Jirousek scored 18 points, including four 3-pointers, to lead Ledgemont (11-10), which plays Cornerstone Christian on Wednesday.
Allyson Jones scored 18 for Bristol (9-11), which had a chance to tie the game at 46 with five seconds.
But the Panthers missed a turnaround three-footer that Ledgemont contested and the Redskins made two free throws to seal the win.
DIVISION III Villa Angela-St. Joseph 59, Badger 50

Sarah Bonar had 41 points and 13 of Badger’s 31 rebounds in the loss at Ashtabula Lakeside.
Kline’s 30 points led VASJ.
