With the Academy Awards drawing near, the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra and conductor Randall Craig Fleischer will get into the swing of things Saturday with “A Night at the Movies,” a concert of the most memorable compositions written for the big screen.
Tickets are on sale now at 330-744-0264 or at youngstownsymphony.com.
The YSO will perform the suite from “Psycho”; John Williams’ music from “Harry Potter” and “Star Wars”; and America’s summertime favorite, “The 1812 Overture.”
Violinist Pip Clarke will join the orchestra in the Mozart Violin Concerto No. 3. Clarke has established herself as one of the leading violinist of her generation.
Clarke gave her sold-out debut at Carnegie Hall in 2007, performing the violin concert by Erich Wolfgang Korngold with the New York Pops.
Other highlights of the season saw the release of her second album, “After a Dream,” featuring a collection of short romantic concert pieces as well as a performance of the Beethoven Concerto with the London Sinfonia.
She released another CD in 2009, in which she performs a newly composed violin concerto by American composer Lee Actor.
Most recently, Clarke has given concert performances across North America, with appearances with the Calgary Philharmonic and the Regina Symphony in Canada, and the Florida Orchestra, the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra and the Utah Symphony in the United States.
Clarke has also toured Scotland with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.
She was the featured violin soloist in the 2001 film “15 minutes,” with Robert DeNiro and Edward Burns.
