On 50th, Spatholts celebrate with family at party

Holy Family Church in Poland was the setting for the Jan. 28, 1961, marriage of Louis Spatholt, known as Gene, and his bride, the former Marilyn Menosky.

The Spatholts grew up in the Youngstown area. He was raised in Youngstown, and she was raised in Poland.

Now of Moncks Corner, S.C., the couple celebrated their 50th anniversary with their family on Jan. 28 during a dinner party at the Redbank Club at the Naval Weapons Station in Goose Creek, S.C. They also renewed their nuptial vows at the 8:30 a.m. Mass that day at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

The Spatholts have two children, Wendy (Art) Genereux of Vidalia, Ga., and Gary (Dawn) Spatholt of Macedonia, S.C. They also have seven grandchildren, Caroline, Taylor, Christopher, Amber, Brent and twins Alyssa and Cara.

Before retiring in 1999, Mrs. Spatholt had been employed as secretary-bookkeeper for Hawthorne City Mobile Home Park in N. Charleston, S.C. She is a member of Immaculate Conception.

Mr. Spatholt retired from the U.S. Navy after serving 20 years. He owned a business, then was employed in H-VAC at Charleston Air Force Base in N. Charleston. He retired in 2004. Mr. Spatholt is a member of Macedonia Christian Church.
