HIGHWAY PATROL

Trooper promoted

Trooper Jared M. Klingensmith of the Ohio State Highway Patrol was promoted to the rank of sergeant last week by Col. John Born, patrol superintendent, during a ceremony at the Patrol’s Academy.

Klingensmith will remain at his current assignment to serve as an assistant post commander at the Ashtabula Post.

He began his patrol career in September 2002. He earned his commission in February 2003 and was assigned to the Bucyrus Post.

In July 2004, he transferred to the Ashtabula Post and in August 2007 transferred to the Hiram Post. In March 2008, he returned to his current assignment at the Ashtabula Post, where he was named Post Trooper of the Year by his peers in 2007, 2009 and 2010. He also earned an Ace Award for excellence in auto- larceny enforcement in 2009 and was named the 2010 state Blue Max Award winner for recovering the most stolen vehicles.

Klingensmith lives in Kinsman in Trumbull County with his wife, Teresa, and their sons, Carter and Logan.

Doctorate

Childhood development

Patrick Michael O’Leary, formerly of Youngstown, and son of Carol and Kevin O’Leary of Youngstown, received his doctorate in childhood development from the College of Consumer and Family Sciences at Purdue University.

O’Leary is a 1999 honor’s graduate of Ursuline High School. After receiving his bachelor’s degree in early-childhood education from Bowling Green State University in 2005, he earned his master’s decree in childhood development from Purdue.

He lives in Lafayette, Ind., and is currently a visiting professor at Purdue and has accepted a full-time position with the university.
