Poland’s Isabelle McCloskey, 11, won first place in the Coretta Scott King and Martin Luther King Jr. Essay/Illustration Contest with her entry, titled “Shades of Grey.”

It’s composed of text shades of Martin Luther King Jr.’s famous speech and took seven hours to complete. The piece expresses the right for freedom and equality for all men.

After winning first place, the mosaic of Martin Luther King Jr. was entered into the 2011 national contest with Artsonia.com, an online children’s national art website.

It placed as one of two semifinalists for the state of Ohio and is on its way to Washington D.C. for the finals. If it should win there, it may go on a national tour.

McCloskey, who enjoys art and ice skating, is a student with Buckeye Online School for Success.
