Liberty center to join Choice Hotels

Dr. Indira “Sammy” Periyasamy, manager of MetroPlex Hotel and Convention Center, said the center will be part of Choice Hotels International by May 1.

Choice Hotels International umbrella also includes Clarion Hotel, Comfort Inn, Quality Inn, Cambria Suites and EconoLodge.

The manager, who is in partnership with two family members in the business, said the Comedy Factory replaced the Funny Farm. The comedy club will open March 4. There is a bar and grille, Sammy G’s.

Periyasamy said she and her business partners have invested a half-million dollars in renovations, which continue, to bring the former MetroPlex up to the standard of Choice Hotels. Renovations are in rooms and the banquet hall. The MetroPlex has 152 rooms. It can accommodate a party as small as 30 or one as large as 1,000.

This weekend, Youngstown Dart Association is having its annual tournament there.
