The Austintown Council of PTAs hosted its annual Founder’s Day dinner Feb. 7 at Lucianno’s Banquet Center.

About 75 past PTA presidents, current PTA officers, board of education members and school administrators attended to celebrate the founding of the Parent Teacher Association.

“When Phoebe Apperson Hearst and Alice McLellan Birney founded PTA in 1897, I doubt they could picture what PTA would look like today,” said Elise Skolnick, president of Austintown Council of PTAs. “But I think they’d be proud of the Austintown PTA’s work.”

The association also presented Austintown DARE Officer Jeff Toth with the Ohio PTA Achievement Award, in recognition of his work on behalf of children in the district.

“He truly makes a difference in the lives of children,” said Skolnick.
