Columbus mayor holding out on supporting stadium track

COLUMBUS (AP) — An Ohio mayor says he can’t support a plan to turn an old minor league baseball into an auto racetrack because of noise issues.

Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman says in a statement that the track developer needs to pay more attention to noise concerns raised by people living near what is now Cooper Stadium.

A spokesman for the mayor tells The Columbus Dispatch that Coleman wants to support the project but wants to see developer Arshot Investment Corp. “do a little more.”

Officials with Arshot tell the newspaper they’re eager to meet with the mayor. The track plan won approval from the city’s development commission earlier this month.

The Columbus Clippers played their last game at the nearly 80-year-old stadium in September 2008.
