YOUNGSTOWN

Police are still searching for three men who robbed a Belmont Avenue restaurant last weekend.

Police said three men brandished guns and ordered employees to the ground at Garlands BBQ, 520 Belmont Ave., around 2 a.m. Sunday. Reports state the men took the contents of the cash drawer and a money bag with about $1,300 before fleeing.

Attempted robbery

WARREN

A 53-year-old employee of USA Taxi reported that a teenage boy pointed a gun at him and demanded money about 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

The driver said he “knocked the gun down two or three times, then drove off in a hurry without giving them anything.”

The driver said he picked up two teen boys on Brier Street Southeast and drove them to an address on Maple Avenue Southwest, where a third teen entered the car.

When the three got out of the car at Union and York Streets Southwest, one of the three pointed the gun at him.

All three wore dark hoodies, the driver told Warren police.

Reported assault

WARREN

Police were called to the Paradise Bar, 2261 N. Park Ave., at 1:25 a.m. Sunday for a 34-year-old woman who reported that a person hit her in the face with the butt of a handgun in the parking lot. The woman had a bruise above one eye but refused medical treatment.

The bar was the scene of a fight late Feb. 3 that resulted in the death of Kevin Gadley, 36, of Newton Falls.

It could be as much as two months before Dr. Humphrey Germaniuk, Trumbull County coroner, rules on whether Gadley’s death was a homicide.

Trustees meeting

MINERAL RIDGE

Weathersfield Township trustees will meet at 7 p.m. today to approve a resolution asking state and local elected officials to help retain the Mineral Ridge post office.

Trustee James Stoddard said he has received a letter, also posted at the post office, saying that the post office and its landlord on state Route 46 have not been able to come to an agreement on a new lease.

As an emergency measure, the post office plans to relocate to the Niles Post Office, 43 W. Park Ave.

The Niles post office is three miles away from the current location. All post-office boxes will be relocated. The post office says it is looking for an alternative location in the township.

Stoddard noted that negotiations by the post office are done out of its Greensboro, N.C., office.
