Staff report

LIBERTY

Antonio R. Vinston, 34, of the 800 block of Lansdowne Boulevard, Youngstown, is in Trumbull County jail on charges of robbery, assault, resisting arrest, carrying a concealed weapon (knife) and obstructing official business.

He failed to post $75,000 bond on the felonies and $10,000 on the misdemeanors after his arraignment Monday in Girard Municipal Court.

A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. Wednesday in Girard court.

Officer Pete DeAngelis was in the right place at the right time while on routine patrol at about 11:45 a.m. Saturday in the area of the Huntington Bank in the 3400 block of Belmont Avenue. DeAngelis observed Vinston running in the area of the bank and also noticed he was wearing a ski mask, a police report states. Then the officer saw Vinston grab a woman’s purse, reports say.

DeAngelis began a pursuit, which then became a foot pursuit, as he followed Vinston behind Aldi’s, 3497 Belmont. At gunpoint, DeAngelis ordered Vinston to halt, but he did not comply, reports say. DeAngelis radioed a description of Vinston, who was intercepted on Hadley Avenue by Capt. Steve Shimko. Vinston fought with Shimko, who was injured, receiving cuts on his hand.
