Former OSU, NFL player charged in $1M theft case
COLUMBUS (AP) — A prosecutor has charged a former Ohio State quarterback whose NFL career was derailed by a gambling addiction with stealing more than $1 million from a Columbus area woman.
Records show a charge of theft was filed today against Art Schlichter in Franklin County Municipal Court in Columbus.
The charge says the 50-year-old Schlichter stole more than $1 million from a 68-year-old woman in suburban Dublin by deceiving her about the reason he took the money.
Schlichter, who played for Ohio State between 1978 and 1981, spent 10 years in prison for gambling-related crimes.
He told reporters he had no comment as surrendered at the county prosecutor’s office this morning.
Schlichter lives in Washington Court House in southwestern Ohio. He’s due to appear in court on Tuesday.
