The president of Ohio State University says the school will probably raise tuition this fall to make up for an expected decrease in state aid as Ohio faces an estimated two-year budget shortfall of $8 billion.

President E. Gordon Gee tells The Columbus Dispatch his school is trying to cut costs, find revenue options and push state leaders to invest in higher education.

A statewide freeze at public colleges held tuition steady from 2006 to last school year.

OSU trustees increased tuition 7 percent for the current school year, putting the total at about $9,400 for a full-time student from Ohio.

Gee says the school would try to offset any tuition increases with some boosts in financial aid.

Ohio State had 56,000 students enrolled at its Columbus campus last fall.
