Eagle Scout awards

Four young men have or will receive their Eagle Scout award, Boy Scouting’s highest honor.

They are Joseph M. Selim, 18, of Canfield; Robert J. Gleichert II, 18, also of Canfield; Robert D. Wolford, 18, of Struthers; and Evan J. Acri, 18, of North Jackson.

Selim is the son of Drs. Suzan L. and Wafaie M. Selim, and Gleichert is the son of Janet Young Gleichert. They will receive their awards at a court-of-honor ceremony Wednesday at Canfield United Methodist Church.

Selim was a member of Cub Scout Pack 25 from 1999 to 2004 at Canfield United Methodist Church and attained the highest rank, Webelos, and received the Arrow of Light Award.

He joined Boy Scout Troop 25 in 2004, also at the church. Scoutmaster is Kevin Prus Sr.

Selim has had the positions of historian, chaplain aide and assistant patrol leader and earned 21 merit badges. His special awards are Fifth year Camp Seven Ranges Pipestone Award, Bob Roberts Memorial Back Patch with four points and attended the Gettysburg Historic Hike.

For his Eagle Scout service project he installed an additional flag pole for the Ohio state flag at the church by providing all ground work and fundraising for the project.

Selim is a senior at Canfield High School, where he is a member of the speech team. He is a member of St. Mark Coptic Orthodox Church in Cleveland and serves as a deacon and youth group member.

He also has been a member of the Ohio Gymnastic Institute Team, competing at level 8 with best events of rings and high bars.

Gleichert has had positions of senior patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader, patrol leader and assistant patrol leader. He earned 21 merit badges and special awards of second year Camp McKinley Heritage Award, fifth year Camp Seven Ranges Pipestone Award, 50-miler Award, the Jimmy Jones Outstanding Scout Award in 2009, and the Bob Roberts Memorial Back Patch Award with three points. Special activities included Ordeal member of Wapashuwi Lodge, Order of the Arrow.

His service project included designing and installing building maps and new signage for Westminster Presbyterian Church, Boardman, to facilitate the use of the building for the various community organizations.

Gleichert is also a senior at Canfield High School, where he has been a member of the wrestling team, student council and football team.He received the three-year letter man award in wrestling, honor roll and spirit award for wrestling. He is a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, where he attends Sunday school and is a member of the senior high youth group.

Wolford, the son of Michael and Christine Wolford, will receive his award at a court-of-honor ceremony March 5 at Struthers Presbyterian Church.

He joined Boy Scout Troop 101 of Struthers in 2004 and his Scoutmaster is Jeff Wormley. He has had positions of senior patrol leader, patrol leader, quartermaster and scribe.

Wolford has received 21 merit badges and is a member of Order of the Arrow. He attended the National Boy Scout Jamboree at Fort A.P. Hill, Va., in 2010 where he was chosen as a patrol leader.

His service project was to build and install three park benches around the flag post at Mauthe Park in Struthers.

Acri, son of Jack and Anne Acri of North Jackson, received his award last month at a court-of-honor ceremony at First Federated Church in North Jackson.

He was a member of Cub Scout Pack 105 from 2000 to 2004, where he attained the highest rank, Arrow of Light.

He joined Boy Scout Troop 105 in May 2004 and his scoutmaster is Bill Clark. He has had the positions of patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader and senior patrol leader. He has earned 24 merit badges.

His special awards include membership in Order of the Arrow and the Philmont Duty to God patch. Special activities include a two-week trek to the Philmont Scout Ranch in 2007.

For his service project, he planned and led the construction of a shade pavilion at the playground of Sunshine Preschool in North Jackson.

Acri is a senior at Jackson-Milton High School, where he plays clarinet in the band. He is also a member of drama club, National Honor Society, Speech & Debate, Quiz Bowl and the soccer team. He is president of Student Council. He is a member of the choir and praise band at the church.
