A mayor who faced a recall effort less than two years ago says he’ll run for a seventh term.
The Akron Beacon Journal reports Democrat Don Plusquellic is Akron’s longest-serving mayor. He’s held the job since 1987.
Plusquellic has dealt with contentious contract talks and city layoffs in recent years but says he wants to continue fighting for Akron residents, even during tough times.
The layoffs included police and firefighters, raising questions about whether union members would support Plusquellic in the upcoming election.
Plusquellic survived a recall effort in 2009 as residents voted nearly 3-1 against it. Supporters of the recall had accused Plusquellic of being wasteful and alienating.
