YOUNGSTOWN
The Junior Group of Goodwill’s Annual Antique and Collectibles Auction will take place March 4 and 5 at Stambaugh Auditorium. George Roman Auctioneers will preside.
Last year, a heavy snowfall forced organizers to reschedule the second day of the event. They hope that because the auction has been pushed back a month, the weather won’t be a problem this year.
Proceeds from the 19th annual event will benefit Goodwill’s job training and employment services for people with disabilities and other barriers to employment in Mahoning, Trumbull, Columbiana, Mercer and Lawrence counties. Home Savings Charitable Foundation; Aim NationaLease; Hill, Barth & King; Gasser Chair Co.; Yurchyk & Davis CPAs; and First Place Insurance are sponsoring this year’s auction.
The event begins March 4 with a patron party from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Festivities include a collectible jewelry sale featuring several thousand pieces, an auction of merchant donations such as a Calvin Johnson-autographed Detroit Lions football, Disney Park passes, airline tickets, two Ohio State University “Sweater Vest” chairs, Ohio State football tickets, fine jewelry and more. The event also includes a basket raffle, a silent auction of collectibles, a basket auction, a 50 50 raffle, hors d’oeuvres, pastries and a cash bar.
Ticket prices for the Friday evening patron party are $25 per person and can be purchased at the Goodwill offices on Belmont Avenue or at any of the eight Goodwill stores.
Tickets must be purchased in advance and the deadline is Feb. 28. Tickets bought after the deadline will be $30, if they are still available. Those who buy a ticket for the Friday Gala get in free for the Saturday event with their ticket stub.
March 5 will feature the auction of antique and collectible items donated to Goodwill. Preview for the auction will begin at 10 a.m., and the bidding will begin at 11 a.m. The collectible jewelry sale will open at 10 a.m. Admission is $2 at the door. The auction will include such items as furniture, dolls, doll houses, sports magazines, Christmas decorations, Royal Doulton items and much more.
