John Broadbent, 42, is in Mercer County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bond after being charged with felony aggravated assault and misdemeanor simple assault stemming from an incident at the home he shared with his parents.
Police were sent to the Wakefield Drive home at 3:12 p.m. Thursday after a 911 call about an assault in progress.
Police said Broadbent had attacked his 75-year-old mother and 78-year-old father, hitting them with a closed fist. Both had visible injuries and were transported for medical treatment, police said.
Broadbent is set for a hearing Thursday before District Justice Ronald Antos.

Maplewood Elementary School will be conducting kindergarten registration Monday through Thursday.
Parents or guardians can register their children from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday.
The child’s birth certificate, Social Security card, immunization records, two proofs of residency and custody papers, if applicable, are required.
Bids to be sought for safety upgrade

Weathersfield Township trustees will advertise for bids for the Seaborn Street safety-upgrade project.
The township has been approved for an Ohio Public Works Commission grant for the project, which is expected to cost about $120,000.
The township’s share would be approximately $20,000.
The project would include paving, drainage, berm repair, sidewalk repair, curbing and new sidewalks in a three-phase project for the street, which runs in front of the high school off of state Route 46.
