The students of St. Joseph and Immaculate Heart of Mary School celebrated their principal’s birthday by giving back to the community.
Principal John Rozzo was pleasantly surprised by the students’ efforts to collect food donations for the St. Vincent DePaul Society.
The food drive coordinated on his birthday exceeded the school’s collection goal by bringing in 418 pounds of food. The students planned to collect a pound of food for every candle on his birthday cake.
Throughout the year, the school supports the organization by holding food drives that help to feed area families in need. The school’s last drive was during Thanksgiving.
“St. Vincent DePaul served over 90,000 hot meals in the last fiscal year and 3,200 families were helped through our pantry,” according to Mahoning County St. Vincent DePaul President Bernie Willoughby.
