Lloyd and Woodside celebrate student effort
Woodside’s auditorium rang with cheers of “We are family! Woodside is the place to be!” as lead by Woodside teachers Jen Schuler (left) and Jenna Schneider (right).
Woodside principal Tim Kelty (right) explained that getting a strand of beads represented a month of good behavior. He asked the school’s kindergartners (standing) to rise for a round of applause if they had four months or more of good behavior.

Staff at Lloyd and Woodside elementary schools rewarded their students for a successful first semester as they hosted celebration assemblies on Jan. 28.
Lloyd principal Tom Lenton plans and emcees two such assemblies — one at the end of each semester.
“I don’t like an event where parents come, we recite achievements and everyone is falling asleep. In our celebration, we do fun group movements and activities so everyone in the audience is involved,” Lenton explained.
During Lloyd’s assembly, Lenton shared the achievements of his students and engaged the audience in the silly miming of stirring a pot and raising the roof.
Woodside also celebrated its students in a Jan. 28 Good Behavior Rally. Teachers award their students with beaded necklaces for a month of good behavior.
“I know that the students with more beads have been well-behaved all year,” said principal Tim Kelty.
Students wearing five strands of beads were rewarded with an ovation by their fellow students and a winter-themed song by the second-grade singing group called The Hollywood Performers.
To close the assembly, Kelty invited kindergarten teachers Jen Schuler and Jenna Schneider to lead the school in Woodside cheers.
They sang: “We are family! Woodside is the place to be!”
