Former Youngstowner is receiving AHA honor

Suzanne Hughes, RN, MSN, who grew up in Youngstown and graduated from Youngstown State University, will be designated a “Heart Champion” along with two others at the 2011 American Heart Association Heart Ball today. The event will take place at Quaker Station in Akron.
They are being recognized for their roles in the advancement of research and medicine relating to cardiology and strokes.
Hughes holds nursing degrees from YSU and The University of Akron, and a master’s degree in nursing from Kent State University.
She is director of population health at Summa Health System, where she works to improve the health of patients with chronic diseases, including heart disease.
Hughes, a nurse for 37 years, lives in Hudson with her husband, Jim. They have three adult children.
