Fitch standout Tolich signs with Ashland

Austintown Fitch’s Ali Tolich signed a letter-on-intent to continue her academic and track careers at Ashland University on Feb. 3.
She will attend the university that is home to hundreds of All-American throwers and will be coached by four-time Olympic hammer thrower Jud Logan, who also coached two U.S. Olympic team members, A.G. Kruger (2004 and 2008) and Jackie Jescheling (2004) from Mentor, Ohio.
Tolich’s college choice was made with the 2016 Olympic games in mind.
Tolich’s athletic career includes being a state champion in the 2010 in discus and shot put, the 2010 indoor state champion in weight throw and shot put and 2010 Nike All-American Indoor weight throw at Nike Indoor Nationals. She was ranked in the top six nationally in 2010 for a discus mark of 160-2. She broke or tied five discus records, including school and Federal League marks.
Tolich never lost in 2010 in the discus and lost only once in the shot put and was the 2009 Division I runner-up in the discus and indoor weight throw.
Tolich was named the Fitch track MVP as a freshman, sophomore and junior and the Fitch soccer MVP for all four years. She maintains a GPA higher than 3.8.
