‘Piazza’ musical includes 3 from Valley

Three area residents will perform in “The Light in the Piazza” at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19 and Feb. 24 through Feb. 26 in the Rodman Playhouse on the University of Mount Union’s campus.

A performance Feb. 20 will be at 2 p.m.

Kelly Morckel of Salem will perform as Clara in the musical. She is a senior French and German major and a graduate of West Branch High School.

Dan Huston of Salem will perform as a member of the ensemble in the musical. He is a senior mathematics major and a graduate of Salem High School.

Megan Smith of Warren will perform as a member of the ensemble in the musical. She is a sophomore communication major and a graduate of Lakeview High School.

“The Light in the Piazza” takes place in Italy during the summer of 1953. Margaret, the wife of an American businessman, is touring the Tuscan countryside with her daughter, Clara.

During the trip, Clara loses her hat and a young man named Fabrizio returns it to her. This brief episode, charged with coincidence and fate, sparks an instant romance between Clara and Fabrizio. As the story unfolds, a secret is revealed and Clara’s mother is forced to alter her daughter’s destiny.

The Rodman Playhouse is on the corner of Simpson Street and Union Avenue on Mount Union’s campus. Tickets are $8 for general admission. Tickets are complimentary for Mount Union faculty, staff and students. For more information or to order tickets, call 330-821-2565.
