Stroke rehab doesn’t have to be fancy to help
LOS ANGELES (AP) — The largest study ever on rehab for stroke survivors finds that a walking program at home is just as good as high-tech therapy with a special treadmill.
The study also found that people could improve for up to a year after their strokes. Doctors had thought there was little to be gained beyond six months.
The federally funded study involved about 400 stroke survivors who had trouble walking.
Results were discussed today at a stroke conference in California.
