Report: Wash. inmate acknowledged killing guard

MONROE, Wash. (AP) — A Washington state reformatory inmate has reportedly confessed to killing Correctional Officer Jayme Biendl in the prison chapel.

The Daily Herald of Everett reports that a search warrant made public Friday says Byron Scherf acknowledged the crime to detectives on Wednesday in an interview recorded on video.

The 52-year-old says he strangled Biendl on Jan. 29 because he was angry with how she had spoken to him a few minutes earlier.
