New Castle man charged in death of unborn child

Neshannock, Pa.

A New Castle man turned himself into Neshannock Township police on multiple charges stemming from a 2009 car crash possibly related to the death of an unborn child.

Dayna Griffin was arraigned Thursday and released on a $50,000 unsecured bond. He faces charges of homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence, aggravated assault by vehicle while driving under the influence and driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance.

Lt. John Rand of Neshannock Township police said that Griffin was the driver in a one-car crash on Graceland Road on Oct. 21, 2009. His passenger was pregnant. “The woman was hospitalized for a long time, and doctors performed an emergency [Cesarean] section. The baby was pronounced dead, and the death’s believed to be caused by injuries from the crash,” Rand said.
