If you don’t take the plunge against cancer, you’re all wet

LAKE MILTON

Do you consider yourself a warm-hearted person? If so, the American Cancer Society hopes you will agree to take a dip in Lake Milton to help fight cancer.

The second annual “Brr For a Cure Polar Bear Plunge” is scheduled for March 5 on the shore of Craig Beach at Lake Milton State Park, 1320 Grandview Ave.

The Polar Bear Plunge gives people of all ages the chance to jump or walk into a specific area of the water where the ice has been cut away and removed. Participants are asked to raise a minimum of $25 per person. Proceeds will be used by the ACS in its mission to fight cancer.

EMTs and other personnel from the Milton Township Fire Department will be in the water at all times to ensure a safe environment.

The plunge is scheduled to take place at 2 p.m., but registration will begin at 12:30 p.m. Only a small group of people will be allowed in the water at one time. All “plungers” must register the day of the event to receive their jump numbers. T-shirts will be given to all participants with donations of $100 or more.

After the plunge, there will be separate heated tents for men and women so they can change their clothes. Hot coffee, tea, hot chocolate and other warm refreshments will be available for a minimal donation.

Friends and family are encouraged to come and watch the fun.
