Abstinence group now gets OK for U. of Pitt safe-sex expo

PITTSBURGH (AP) — A group that promotes sexual abstinence will be allowed to participate in future student-run sexual education expos at the University of Pittsburgh.

Members of the Pittsburgh Anscombe Society complained to administrators after they were kicked out of the lobby of a dormitory Monday during a student-organized program.

School officials say the group was initially excluded because it is not yet a recognized student group and because its members impeded foot traffic by handing out leaflets and paper flowers.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette says the group met with school officials and student organizers Thursday and they will be included in future sex education fairs at the university.

The university also released a statement affirming the right of student groups to speak freely on any topic, but says the school can limit access to certified groups.
