Playhouse to offer youth acting classes

YOUNGSTOWN

The Youngstown Playhouse Youth Theatre will offer six-week classes for children in grades 1-12. The one-hour classes will be on Saturdays beginning Feb. 19. The fee is $65. Call 330-788-8739. The schedule is as follows (instructor in parentheses):

Creative Drama (grades 1-3): 9:30 a.m.; Designed for the beginner, this class encourages children to explore creative movement and play in an expressive and imaginative environment (Monica Beasley-Martin).

Advanced Creative Drama (grades 1-3): 11 a.m.; Students will build their performing skills with emphasis on characterization, body control and cooperation with others (Beasley-Martin).

Improv Workshop (grades 4-6): 9:30 a.m.; Perfect for beginning and advanced performers, students will cultivate acting skills by learning the basics of improvisation (Carla D. Gipson).

Create Your Own Adventure (grades 4-6): 11 a.m.; Students will learn the basics of scriptwriting while creating and performing their own imaginative stories (Gipson).

The Magic of Theater (grades 7-12): 9:30 a.m; This beginner class introduces students to all the elements of theater including acting, lighting, sound, costumes and scenic design (John Pecano and Candy DiLullo).

Advanced Acting (grades 7-12): 11 a.m.; Students will analyze, prepare and rehearse scenes as they explore the process of producing a stage play (Pecano and DiLullo).
