Liberty High girls suspended after fight

LIBERTY

Two female students at Liberty High School received 10-day suspensions after being involved in a fight at about 7:30 a.m. Wednesday at the school.

A teacher who witnessed the incident said the girls were involved in a verbal argument in her classroom and she attempted to diffuse it. The 17-year-old then initiated a physical confrontation with the 16-year-old. Two male students were able to separate the girls.

After the girls were sent to the office, a utility knife minus a blade, was found on the floor of the classroom. Police spoke to the girls in the presence of their parents.

The 16-year-old had scratches and lacerations on her face; the 17-year-old had cuts on her hands.

The younger girl told police that the fight stemmed from text messages sent to her by the older girl. Both girls were sent home with their parents. The older girl may face expulsion from school.
