Lohan to be charged with grand theft

LOS ANGELES

Prosecutors said Tuesday they plan to charge Lindsay Lohan with felony grand theft of a $2,500 necklace reported stolen from a jewelry store last month — the most serious count the actress has faced in more than three years of trouble with the law.

The district attorney’s spokeswoman, Jane Robison, said the charge will be filed today. She is due in court for an arraignment this afternoon.

The charge brings the troubled star another step closer to jail. Lohan, 24, remains on probation for a 2007 drunken-driving case, and a judge had threatened to throw her in jail if she ran into trouble again.

Los Angeles police said Feb. 2 that Lohan was under investigation for taking a necklace from a Venice store later identified as Kamofie and Co. Detectives obtained a search warrant to try to retrieve the item from Lohan’s home, but it was turned into a police station before any search was made.

Police said they had no update on the case Tuesday.

Elton John recently made an album with his longtime idol, Leon Russell. Now he’ll do the induction honors when Russell is ushered into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next month. Russell and John are up for a Grammy award for their work on the joint album “The Union.”

John won’t be the only Rock and Roll Hall of Famer honoring the 2011 class March 14. Paul Simon will induct Neil Diamond, and Neil Young will induct Tom Waits. Also, Rob Zombie will induct Alice Cooper, while John Legend will induct Dr. John. The induction ceremony will be in New York City and will be aired March 20 on the Fuse network.

Streisand to perform at Grammys ceremony

NEW YORK

Another legend is going to be appearing at Sunday’s Grammy awards — this time, it’s Barbra Streisand. Streisand is a nominee for best traditional pop vocal album for “Love Is The Answer,” and she’ll be performing on the live telecast. She’ll be introduced by another music legend, her co-star in “A Star Is Born,” Kris Kristofferson.

Last week, it was announced that Mick Jagger would be performing. Other performers include Eminem, Cee Lo Green, Gwyneth Paltrow, Arcade Fire and Justin Bieber.
