‘Farce’ at Playhouse

The comedy “Don’t Drink the Water” opens Friday at New Castle Playhouse, 212 E. The farce takes place inside an American embassy behind the Iron Curtain, where a vacationing family’s plane is forced to land. The family wanders into a restricted area and winds up under the protection of the absent ambassador’s hapless son.
‘Gasland’ screening

Radio station Q92 (WDJQ-92.5 FM) and “The DeLuca Show,” which airs mornings, are hosting a free screening of “Gasland,” the Academy Award-nominated documentary, at 1 p.m. Saturday at The Canton Palace Theatre, 605 Market Ave. North. Seating is limited. Doors open at noon. The film deals with hydraulic fracturing (“fracking”) in Ohio by natural-gas companies. Controversy surrounds the practice as a potential threat to drinking- water supplies. “Gasland” filmmaker Josh Fox crossed the country to understand what hydraulic fracturing is, uncovering secrets, lies and contamination along the way. After the screening, environmental groups and elected officials will answer questions.
