Victim, 17, regains consciousness
Shavai Owens, who was in critical condition after the Sunday shootings in Youngstown, was reported to be conscious Monday morning.
“The good news is [that her guardian] said Shavai is doing well. She is in the critical unit at Northside [Medical Center], but she was doing well and was conscious,” said Boardman High School Principal Timothy Saxton.
The 17-year-old Boardman High School senior was shot in her right ear at an off-campus fraternity party early Sunday.
Saxton said Owens’ guardian told him that the high school basketball player’s condition is progressing.
Autopsy information
The Mahoning County Coroner’s Office released the autopsy information for Jamail Johnson.
Forensic pathologist Dr. Joseph Ohr confirmed that Johnson died from a single gunshot wound to the head and multiple gunshot wounds to the left leg.
According to the report, three projectiles were recovered from the body and will be forwarded to the Youngstown Police Department.
The case has been ruled a homicide.
An official at the coroner’s office said that no further comment can be made until the autopsy has been finalized, which could take two to three months.
