Girl, 12, assaulted

BOARDMAN

Police said a 12-year-old girl was assaulted at the Southern Park Mall over the weekend.

The girl’s mother told police the 12-year-old was pulled to the ground and punched by a 14-year-old girl at the Market Street mall around 8 p.m. Saturday, according to reports. Police said the 12-year-old girl had a cut on the inside of her lip, and one of her fingernails was torn off. Detectives are investigating.

Theft charge

BOARDMAN

A 45-year-old Boardman man is facing a theft charge after a weekend incident.

According to reports, Christopher Creswell Beard is employed by Teen Challenge, a local faith-based drug rehabilitation program, and was intoxicated in Dunkin Donuts, 6041 Market St. late Sunday. Police said the man stole a 1-pound bag of coffee, and officers charged him with theft and walking in the roadway while intoxicated.

Petition to organize

NORTH LIMA

Beaver Township Road Department workers have sent a petition to township trustees to join Teamsters Local 377.

Although Trustee Chairman Ronald Kappler acknowledged the petition was received, he said the trustees would not comment until discussions are completed. The township road department has three employees. Workers for the Springfield Township Road Department belong to Local 377.

Armed robbery

WARREN

Police were called to Rocky’s AM/PM Market, 1744 W. Market St. SW, at 8:37 p.m. Saturday, for an armed robbery. Police said two people took an unknown amount of money and a semi-automatic handgun.

Drug charges

LIBERTY

Police charged Michelle L. Burkes, 34, of the 400 block of Francisca Avenue, Youngstown, with trafficking in drugs-marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia after they were called to the Quality Inn, 4055 Belmont Ave., about 7 p.m. Friday.

Burkes’ room emitted a strong odor of marijuana, the police report stated. In plain view, police saw bags of suspected marijuana. They also found a roll of plastic bags. Burkes was booked and released on $1,500 bond. She will appear today in Girard Municipal Court.

Man faces charges

CAMPBELL

A man was charged with trafficking in marijuana after he ran during a traffic stop, police report.

Eric Shields II, 21, of Almasy Drive in Campbell was stopped shortly before midnight Saturday when he didn’t stop at a stop sign on Jean Street, police said.

When officers went to the car, they could smell marijuana, police said.

They asked Shields to step out of the car, then began to search it and him. He tried to run away, and an officer shot at him with his stun gun but missed, the report says.

Shields fell, and as he did so, he tried to throw something away, the report says. Police recovered a large plastic bag containing 11 smaller bags of marijuana, the report says.

Shields was jailed with no bond until his arraignment, which was set for this morning, the report says.
