Vienna

Vienna Township Neighborhood Watch will have Jeff Adler, an assistant Trumbull County prosecutor, as guest speaker at 7 p.m. Feb. 14 in Vienna Town Hall.

Adler will speak about his work with the Trumbull County Land Reutilization Corp. and Land Bank. It was formed with the cooperation of the county treasurer, county auditor, county commissioners and county prosecutor. This is only the third LRC in the state.

The TCLRC was formed to help return vacant and abandoned properties in the county to productive use.

Program on blight

CORTLAND

Brad Melzer, representative of Filtrexx International LLC of Grafton, Ohio, will present “Solving the Vacant Lot Issue ... using compost to remediate soil, grow food and remove blight” at the Feb. 17 meeting of the Trumbull County Master Gardeners program.

It will take place from 10 a.m. to noon in the meeting room of the Trumbull County Agricultural and Family Education Center, 520 W. Main St. The program costs $20 and is open to the public. The program is for anyone interested in alternative gardening methods and/or organic gardening. Register by calling the Ohio State University Extension Service at 330-638-6783.

Dance lessons

BOARDMAN

USA Dance and Boardman High School have teamed up to offer area high school students the chance to learn ballroom dancing.

March Ballroom Madness will take place from 10 a.m. to noon, March 5, 12, 19 and 26 at the high school. Cha-cha, salsa, rumba, east coast swing, waltz, foxtrot, tango and hustle dances will be taught.

Participants must be current Mahoning, Columbiana or Trumbull county high-school students. The lessons are free, but registration is required. Class size is limited to the first 100 couples. Registration forms are available at high school offices and www.usadance2015.com

Public meeting

YOuNGSTOWN

A public meeting to discuss the Kirkmere sewer replacement project will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Volney Rogers School, 2400 S. Schenley Ave. The project, estimated to cost about $700,000, will affect those living on Susan Circle, Glen Oaks Drive, Brunswick Court and Estates Circle. The project is expected to start at the end of March and take 120 days to complete. Councilman Paul Drennen, D-5th, and city administrators will be at the meeting to explain the project.
