Flaherty family celebrates 50th at dinner party

NEW MIDDLETOWN

Mr. and Mrs. Thomas J. Flaherty of New Middletown celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Feb. 5 at a dinner party for invited guests at St. Paul the Apostle Church, where the couple are members.

Hosts of the celebration were their five children, Tim Flaherty of Columbus; Tom Flaherty of Springfield, Ohio; Kevin Flaherty of New Middletown; Kathleen Jackson of Columbus; and Kolleen Crish of Cortland.

The Flahertys’ family includes 10 grandchildren.

Mrs. Flaherty, the former Mary Ellen McCreay, retired last year from Oh Eye Associates/Lee Eye Center in Boardman as a licensed optician. She is a member of the altar guild at the church.

Mr. Flaherty retired after 31 years of service at General Motors in Lordstown, where he was employed as a material handler. He is a UAW member and belongs to the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Flaherty served in the Navy from 1956 to 1962.

Mr. and Mrs. Flaherty were united in marriage on Feb. 4, 1961, at St. Brendan Church in Youngstown.
